Level 2 Apprenticeship in Construction (Groundworks)

Our Construction and Groundworks Apprenticeship programme will provide you with everything you need to start a career in the Construction industry.

To start the Apprenticeship working on-site, you will complete 12 weeks training at our Peterlee Training Campus to fully prepare you for the Construction and Groundworks Apprenticeship. The training will include:

  • HSE Health and safety training
  • Abrasive wheel training
  • Face fit testing training
  • Working from height/ ladder awareness
  • IOSH Working Safely qualification
  • Asbestos awareness
  • Construction Skills Certification Scheme
  • Working in confined spaces training
  • Functional skills training in English and Maths incorporated into Construction
  • You will receive all relevant Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) which includes hard hat, hi-vis, goggles, safety boots and gloves)
  • Tool kit with all the tools you need for the job

Once you have everything you need to start the Apprenticeship, you will work towards gaining your qualifications whilst gaining real on site work experience in the construction trade, including:

  • CITB Cskills Award Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Construction Operations and Civil Engineering Services-Construction Operations (Construction)-General Building Operations
  • CITB Cskills Award Level 2 Diploma in Construction Operations-General Construction (Construction)
  • Concreting, block paving, drainage, groundworks, building operations, pavement construction, laying kerbs and channels.

Working Hours and Pay

£99 per week - Working times for both the Traineeship and Apprenticeship are Monday-Thursday 9.00am-4.30pm (30 hours)

Safety Passport

You will receive a unique Safety Passport. Inside it contains your unique passport number, CSCS card and a list of all the health and safety training you have completed. This Passport is linked to our online safety passport system where your training can be checked and highlighted if due for renewal. This ensures Site Managers know you have completed all relevant training to be site complaint.

Location

On site at our Peterlee Training Campus.

Please note that the sites are always to be confirmed but we will try and place you as close to where you live as possible, if necessary we can arrange pick up points for students.

You will complete your training at your nearest training centre, we have specialist facilities in Peterlee and Hartlepool, County Durham.

Learning Methods

You will spend the Construction and Groundworks Apprenticeship working on site for 4 weeks and then 4 weeks at the training academy on a rotation basis for the year until the Apprenticeship is complete. During this time you will gain hands on training as well as theory work for your diploma part of the course collecting on site evidence and portfolio work.

Progression Opportunities

You could progress onto a Level 3 Construction related course or Apprenticeship.

Career Opportunities

After completing the Apprenticeship you could start full time employment as a Groundworker, Skilled Labourer, Site Supervisor, Excavator, Civil Engineer, General Builder or other related jobs within the Construction Industry.


Entry Requirements

Requirements

You must be aged between 16 and 18. You must have no previous Level 2 qualifications in Bricklaying, Plumbing, Joinery, Plastering or Painting and Decorating. You must also not hold a Level 3 qualification in any subject. No candidates who have completed an apprenticeship previous are eligible.
