This qualification provides the skills, knowledge and competence required to become an IT, Software, Web or Telecoms Professional in a wide range of job roles. You will learn the fundamental skills required, through technical training and work base learning, to gain the certifications and experience required by top ICT employers.
Level 3 IT Software, Web & Telecoms Advanced Apprenticeship is split into several sections so you gain technical knowledge and real practical experience, along with functional and personal skills, required for an immediate job and future career.
You will learn in the workplace and embed new skills in a real work context through completing the Level 3 Diploma in ICT Professional Competence. You will also receive formal off the job training whilst completing the Level 3 Diploma in ICT Systems and Principles.
The off the job technical certificate (Level 3 Diploma in ICT Systems and Principles) is split into 5 week of training where you will gain a worldwide recognised qualification:
- CompTIA A+
- CompTIA N+
- Customer Service
You will also complete the following components:
- Employment Rights and Responsibilities
- Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)

Who The Apprenticeship Is For
This Apprenticeship programme is designed for new entrants to a role in the IT & Telecoms sector, and to provide progression and re-skilling routes for existing IT Professionals.
Apprentices can work in areas such as:
- Software & Web Development
- Technical Support
- IT Project Management
What Will You Learn
The apprenticeship is made up of qualifications and learning that will provide apprentices with the skills and knowledge required to become competent in their chosen job role.
The framework includes a balance of content in technical, business and interpersonal areas, designed to ensure apprentices have an appropriate set of skills to operate in today’s IT & Telecoms job roles.
In addition to generic units, the apprenticeship contains 'vendor' and industry recognised content from CompTIA.
You will be assigned a qualified Training Advisor, where learning will be undertaken by a mixture of 1 to 1 sessions, on/off the job learning and mentor support.
The technical certificate is gained through 5 week off-site training:
CompTIA A + Training = 2 weeks
CompTIA N+ Training = 1 week
Customer Support = 1 week
Security = 1 week
The assessment strategy includes details on:
- Criteria for defining realistic working environment
- Roles and occupational competence of assessors, expert witnesses, internal verifiers and standards verifiers
- Quality control of assessment
- Evidence requirements
Apprentices may also elect to continue within their job role and pursue their learning by undertaking additional technical, business or managerial level training and qualifications.
Apprentices who have completed a Level 3 apprenticeship programme have often progressed within their career to take on team leader or senior level positions, utilising their expanding technical expertise – and guiding and training others within the organisation.

There are no formal additional requirements for Advanced Apprenticeships, but many employers will require 5 GCSEs (A*-C) or an equivalent qualification when applying for the programme.
Prospective apprentices who have achieved a GCSE grade A*-C in Maths and English will be exempt from completing the corresponding Key Skills or Functional Skills, if these were gained within 5 years of beginning the Apprenticeship programme. Those who have not will have to complete the following:
- Functional Skills English Level 2 (or equivalent for exemption)
- Functional Skills Maths Level 2 (or equivalent for exemption)
- Functional Skills ICT Level 2 (or equivalent for exemption)
