We can’t praise our very own Sky Jackson enough for the commitment she’s shown towards developing herself from traineeship to apprenticeship, to a full-time employee who’s now sharing her experience with school students.
Her dedication makes it easy for us to showcase the benefits of the apprenticeship programme when it’s used as a tool to enter a life-long career, just as Sky has demonstrated.
Sky began her career in 2015 when she started a traineeship with Profound Services after being recommended by a friend. She decided to enrol on to the programme, telling us: “Even if there was a chance that I wouldn’t gain an apprenticeship at the end of the traineeship, I thought this would be good to add on to my CV and give me a better chance of gaining employment.”
But Sky didn’t have to think about just adding the experience to her CV. Our Traineeship Coordinators were so impressed with her that they opened an apprenticeship opportunity here at Profound, and Sky has now been working here since, completing a Level 2 Apprenticeship in Business and Administration and is coming towards the end of her Level 3 Apprenticeship.
Since starting as a trainee, Sky has moved up the ranks within the business and is now an integral part of our Learner Engagement Team, supporting young people in moving into apprenticeship opportunities.
Sky has also been working with schools in the area to present at their assembly sessions where she has been sharing IAG about apprenticeships and her personal experience in moving into a career using the programme. Sky commented: “When I was at school I thought that the only option available was to go to college.
“I wanted to give the students the information to know there are other options for higher education especially for those who do not feel they are reaching their full potential as they are not academic learners.
“It means a lot to speak to the students regarding the options for their future. I know how daunting the feeling is when thinking about where to go after leaving school, so it’s important for me to let school students know that there are other options available other than the college and university route. With an apprenticeship, you still get the equivalent qualifications along with the work experience.”
The schools that Sky has been visiting have been so pleased with the information she has been delivering that they have asked for an encore to deliver to more assembly sessions. Associate Assistant Head Jacqui Jenkin at St Bede’s Catholic School & Byron Sixth Form commented: “It was great to have Sky attend our assembly to deliver information – myself and the school were so impressed with Sky - she is a credit to Profound Services and to herself.”
